What an incredible night! Each month we hold a parents gathering to teach on parenting. Tonight we had almost 20 parents brave the rain, that is suppose to freeze in a couple hours for a night to learn how to love their children better.
Joy (Travis' wife) did most of the teaching tonight using Dr. Gary Chapman's five love languages.
The Five Love Languages
- Words of Affirmation - Verbal appreciation
- Quality Time - Focusing all of your energy
- Receiving Gifts - Visible symbols of love
- Acts of Service - Doing simple chores
- Physical Touch - Receive physical contact
Next month's gathering. March 31 @ 6:30pm. Safe Surfing: Using the internet @ home.

I've been a fan of the original (The Five Love Languages) since my (then) therapist made me read it at least 5 years ago.
Since then I've recommended the book to anyone and everyone I know who has so much as hinted at a relationship issue, including my hairdresser this past weekend.
Such simple, easy, non-intimidating reading that really makes it painless to learn how to give and receive healthy love.
Great reading suggestion, wish I could have heard the conversations!

I use the version for singles when I teach Students. The youth one seems to get false readings when this culture reads the questions.
I am in a large city and seem to get a large number of Quality Time. I am suspicious that this is due to the amount of time the students parents work and are simply not home.
I was privileged to be a break out session leader at a conference a few years ago and they had heard I taught the 5 love languages in a different way. So I showed up with crayons and paper to color on and some printed "inventory sheets" (aka test.) the kids were amazing and they packed the room at the college so full I literally had to sit onto of a desk with about 6 or so on the desk with me.
Anyway, the janitor for the college was cleaning the room following the session and was reading the material I had handed out. He went to the leader of the conference and they tracked me down to teach him so he could go home and work with his kids that night.
All this to say this is the kind of tool that our parents and students need! - Great stuff.
