Viva La Vida

Written by evan on at 12:12 AM

ok.
im not a big cold play fan.
it seems like its the thing to listen to if you want to be a "progressive pastor".
whatever that means.

i got the album and have listened to it six times.
its ok.

viva la vida is good for listening while

  • working
  • sitting and chilling
  • napping

viva la vida is not good for listening while
  • riding a roller coaster
  • road trips in the car
  • head banging

do you like the new coldplay album?

This is so 2006.
But I finally just watched Everything is Spiritual by Rob Bell last week.
It is incredible.

He takes complex issues and makes them simple.

Jak Prints Emailed Me.

Written by evan on June 4, 2008 at 6:25 PM

Evan,

First I would like to apologize for my demeanor earlier. I had already made up my mind on the course of action I would take before even speaking to you. This was an judgement error on my part. I failed to assess the situation from a customers viewpoint and was more concerned with policy and protocol. As soon as we hung up the phone I knew I had made the wrong decision.

In order to try and make things "right" I have upgraded your shipping priority, these will arrive on 6/6 as you requested.

I fully understand if you no longer wish to do business with Jakprints again. If you do decide to place a future order I would like to extend a future order discount of $125. Just shoot me an email if and when you place that order and I will take care of the discount.

Thanks

Josh Arnold

My bad experience with Jak Prints

Written by evan on at 9:14 AM

I've been going thru Jak Prints for whenever I needed promotional postcards printed for different events.
They are cheap and have a good turnaround time.
I've always have been fairly pleased with them.

But.
The latest order I sent in was for some dated material for our promotional postcards for our Father's Day event at First Assembly.
I uploaded the artwork, ordered the cards no problem.
Eight days later the postcards show up.
I open the box to look them over and to get ready to pass them onto our team that was going to label, stamp, and mail them that day.

But.
When I opened the box, I noticed they looked a little odd.
*ats where the problem came in.

So, I called JakPrints.
Here was their solution.
"Send back a couple of the postcards back to us, so that we can verify they are 3" instead of 3.5", and if so, we will do a reprint."
So we did that.

5 Days later.
When I logged into my JakPrints account today, I noticed they started production on the postcards again, so I immediately called about the date I would have them in my hands.
They said they would do standard shipping and I would have them in my hands on Monday, June 9th, 10 days after the initial postcards were in my hands.

3.5"

3.0"

I then asked for the supervisor, and here was our conversation. Paraphrased

Me: "I ordered the postcards, you cut them wrong, and now I'm 10 days behind, can't you overnight them?"
Supervisor: "You only paid for standard shipping."
Me: "I paid for 3.5" tall postcards and got 3"."
Supervisor: "But you didn't put a rush on them the first time."
Me: "Exactly, because I planned out enough time, so I didn't have to rush. Now I'm 10 days behind on a dated event."
Supervisor: "Sorry we don't do that."
Me: "I guess I will switch all of our printing to Vistaprints for now on."
Supervisor: "Ok"

Who do you use to print with?

*UPDATED*- Jak Prints emailed me. I posted it here.

My One Prayer

Written by evan on June 2, 2008 at 10:13 AM

Our church joined with the global teaching series One Prayer.

This Sunday I kicked off the series at First Assembly with my prayer "Make Us Selfless." Listen here.

Here are my notes. I used a technique called mind mapping. It worked great.
