Helping Parents. The 5 Love Languages

Written by evan on February 25, 2008 at 6:47 PM

What an incredible night! Each month we hold a parents gathering to teach on parenting. Tonight we had almost 20 parents brave the rain, that is suppose to freeze in a couple hours for a night to learn how to love their children better.

Joy (Travis' wife) did most of the teaching tonight using Dr. Gary Chapman's five love languages.

The Five Love Languages

  1. Words of Affirmation - Verbal appreciation
  2. Quality Time - Focusing all of your energy
  3. Receiving Gifts - Visible symbols of love
  4. Acts of Service - Doing simple chores
  5. Physical Touch - Receive physical contact

Next month's gathering. March 31 @ 6:30pm. Safe Surfing: Using the internet @ home.

The Kingdom

Written by evan on January 3, 2008 at 1:17 PM

*Spoiler alert*

Last night kt and I rented The Kingdom from Redbox. I fell and in out of sleep towards the middle of the movie, due my sleeping pattern change (got 6 hours of sleep tuesday night, and 11 hours monday night). It was your typical, you did something to us, so we are going to do something to them. See Myth of Redemptive Violence.

An FBI Agent is killed by Muslims in Saudi Arabia, and the FBI sends a team to "investigate", and obviously it turns into a shootout.

The final lines of the movie were incredible.

The muslim grandfather, as he was dying from being shot by an FBI agent, told his grandson, "Don't worry, we are going to kill them all"
Meanwhile, it flashs back to a scene earlier in the movie, when the FBI learns that a muslim killed one of their agents, Jamie Fox's character comforts another FBI agent with the words, "Don't worry, we are going to kill them all."

The movie stressed a connection between the Middle East fighting for what they think is right, and the Western culture fighting for what they think is right.

Yesterday was katie's birthday.

Tonight was my first softball game for the year. My first pitch i swung at, was a miss. ouch! Ended the night 2 for 3; with 2 inside the park homers and 5 or 6 RBIs.

Luke took a picture of one swing.
