A new blogging project. Missionaries.

Written by evan on March 20, 2008 at 2:37 PM

I am working with IYCM to launch a blog that will connect global missionaries with Illinois jr. high & sr. high students.
We are wanting to have missionaries from around the world blog what they are doing, so that students can connect with them.

A couple other functions of the blog.

  • Section for students to ask missionaries questions.
  • World map, of where missionaries are located, with a short description of what they are doing.
I am in the early development stage of this new blog project.
I'd love any suggestions or thoughts.

Are there any blogs out there that are doing this sort of thing?
Are there any missionary blogs?
Is a forum my best bet for a q&a with missionaries?

I know many missionaries that have blogs, but I haven't seen any w/ a dedicated Q&A section or forums.

Are you thinking of having a centralized forum for any missionary or a specific group of missionaries? Or were you thinking of setting up a separate forum for each individual missionary site?

I'm interested in this idea and hearing what you come up with. Feel free to give me an email.

Here are 2 of my great friends that are blogging missionaries from Illinois. They leave for overseas in a few weeks, so you might want to catch them soon.

We feature SIM missionary blogs on our homepage every week:
http://www.sim.org/

If you're interested, email me back at steve.knight@sim.org, and I'd be glad to help put you and your students in touch with some SIM missionary bloggers who might-could participate in this with you.

I'm sure Tony Sheng has already shared this link with you, but in case he didn't, definitely check out:

Our missionaries have a blog under www.newlifeforhaiti.org. It isn't on the main page.

This is probably trivial, but I don't like the picture associated with the blog. Is the fly on her nose supposed to be what moves my heart? She is so poor she can't keep the flies off of her?

I've been to a dirt poor country and most of the children I saw were smiling, yet we tend not to use those photos because if people see that the children are smiling, they won't see a need. The adults however smile less, and even less smiles come from the teens, but people only seem to want to help children.

Ok. I'm done with my little rant.
